Emergency fund calculator
Keep the snowball rolling through an unexpected bill or a gap in income. How big should the fund be, and when will it be ready?
Results are a scenario based on the assumptions you enter, not a certain result or investment advice. The calculation runs in your browser; your numbers are not sent anywhere.
How is it calculated?
The fund needed is your monthly essential expenses times the months of cover you want. ₺30,000 a month and 6 months of cover come to ₺180,000 today.
Since expenses rise every year, the fund needed grows with the expense increase assumption. Your savings grow each month at the monthly rate equivalent to the yearly return, and your monthly saving is added at month end. The first month your savings pass the fund needed is the result.
An emergency fund should sit somewhere you can reach at once and whose value doesn’t swing much in the short term, so keep the return assumption cautious.
Frequently asked questions
How many months of expenses should an emergency fund cover?
A common range is 3 to 6 months of essential expenses. If your income is irregular, you’re a single-income household, or your job is at risk, more than 6 months gives extra comfort.
Where should I keep my emergency fund?
Somewhere you can reach at once and whose value doesn’t swing much in the short term. Which option suits you depends on your situation; this is not investment advice.
Should I pay off debt first or build the fund?
High-interest debt, such as credit cards, grows fast. Many people build a small starter fund first, then focus on high-interest debt. The credit card minimum payment calculator shows what your debt costs.
